The End of my BoBS Journey

In February 2016, my brother Kevin and I started playing the Brethren of Brick Seas game on the Eurobrick website.  Neither of us i) had collection that much of any pirate related bricks in it or ii) were all that good of builders.  In fact, until that point I was an avid Castle collector but not much else.  Eurobricks Castle Lego game was rather daunting though as the skill level there was astronomically high, while BoBs was newbie friendly and had a play-by-mail element we both thought might be fun.

Five years have passed and I have finally left the game for good.  I'd like to say it was solely because I had finished my/our story line or that the rampant "cheating" by some got to me (and I won't lie - that is a part of it), but the fact of the matter is I simply grew bored.

Below is the last thing I ever built for the game, which I used to resurrect my sloop Marvel.  Not perfect in build or photography, but I am immensely proud of it.

"Cheers to a half-decade of MOC'ing"

The Yellow Skull Fleets penultimate game move was to sack the Corrington town of Stormhaven.  This means we were the only player pirates to ever successfully sack a town, and we did it twice!  We're legends in our own minds. Of course as the last of the original Sea Rats, no one even remembers the first time.

Over the last two years, my building certainly became less strategic and more about what I was inspired to do; and I wasn't inspired to do a whole lot.  The scale I attempted also shrunk, though I tended now to think more of my MOCs as movie sets rather than builds.

The late Captain Pike

This scene was to raise my possible fleet size.  For six months after, the Yellow Skull Fleet was feared as we mauled four trade fleets in a row.

Fort Maartens

At one point the Sea Rats decided we needed to take advantage of some micro build prizes, and I contributed with a small fort.  I really had fun with this odd angles on this one.

The Dread Admiral Katrin DeKruger

With Bishop Meloche long dead, I realized I needed a someone to be my protagonist.  DeKruger came to me on a whim.

"The Bounty"

I did a small homage to the Mandalorian with a short story reminiscent of the Imperial client paying him off after delivering the child.  Only differences were that client and his henchmen were from the china analogous Lotus empire, and meeting took place in an opium den.  He still sounded like Werner Herzog in my head though.

The resurrect my flagship frigate Hand of Fate, I went way off board and did a jail break of cabin boy Lloyd - the only surviving member of Meloche's crew.  Another player had thrown him in jail, after asking permission and I went with it at the time. This was supposed to lead to the big reveal of the puppet master Lord of Whispers, who I was hinting at as Meloche resurrected.  The surprise was that it was really the Madieran Admiral Cadiz and the Yellow Skull Fleet was really that nation's covert operation.  I would have then moved on to building for that NPC nation.

It might have been fun, but I'm sure the effort would have been worth it.

Welcome to pirate hidey-hole of Archer's Bight

After sacking Stormhaven, my fleet sailed to this micro-scale hideout.  The background blurb stated some food had been spilled and they got ants. :)

So that is the end of the BoBS odyssey.  Maybe I'll get the urge to go back at some point, but for now the bricks have been boxed and put in storage.  On to the next adventure
