For my birthday, my brother-in-law surprised me with a bin of pure classic Lego joy (Thanks again B). After 10 hours with my son, and another marathon session with my brother, I've only really assembled half of it. So after the break, is my first photo dump of 2018 consisting on a number of classic space sets that I .
Here is the extent of the "haul" so far:
6835 - Spyrius Saucer Scout
Not that impressive, and was missing some significant parts. The bottom is good place to start of course. :)
6895 - Space Police Spy-Trak
It is missing one brick that helps hold the middle in place, and some clear red antenna. Problem is that the design is faulty on that middle section and causes the whole thing to collapse when I substituted the proper brick in. That old school Blacktron I minifig partially makes up for it though.
6898 - Ice Planet Ice Sat V
I liked the Ice Planet sets from afar back in the early 2000s, though I find them a bit garish now; I guess my tastes have changed. No steering articulation in this set, but a nice vehicle all the same.
6983 - Ice Planet Lego Ice Station Odyssey
Visually stunning the first time you see it, but more an open play area than a base in my opinion. It has a couple of neat tricks in it though.
6812 - Blacktron II Grid Trekkor
Nice little impulse buy set.
6878 - Blacktron II Sub Orbital Guardian
I love this set. It 's a sort of military walker in my eyes, and I can imagine a squadron of these marching across a planetary landscape. I guess that is the army builder in me talking. :)
6933 - Blacktron II Spectral Starguider
A pickup truck that has sections break off and combine into a ship. Very fun for Erik.
6981 - Blacktron II Aerial Intruder
The pods break off into smaller ships (recurring theme?), and the center holds a buggy that drives itself out when you lift the window. It is really swooshable to boot. The best of these Blacktron sets by far.
6906 - M-Tron Celestial Forager
A nice vehicle with articulated turning and magnet fun.
6989 - M-Tron Lego Mega Core Magnetizer
Oh Baby! This thing is a beast and easily my favourite classic space set from this first batch. Erik also made this the central point of play when he was using all these together, so I think the opinion was mutual.
The next photo dump will be a bit of a mixed bag.
